Description
Beginning at the right iliac fossa, the cecum occupies the inferolateral abdomen and continues superiorly as the ascending colon, its haustrated wall and taeniae coli readable as the segment tracks toward the hepatic flexure beneath the right lobe of the liver. A smooth animated progression carries the lumen across the upper abdomen as the transverse colon, then around the splenic flexure near the spleen and left kidney before descending along the left flank toward the iliac crest. Subtle rotation and sequential highlighting clarify how the ascending and descending segments remain secondarily retroperitoneal while the transverse segment hangs more freely on its mesocolon, with the sigmoid colon and rectum entering the pelvis inferiorly as the pathway continues. Orientation along these turns matters in day-to-day clinical work because the flexures are common points of resistance during colonoscopy and frequent landmarks in operative reports, especially when describing right hemicolectomy, extended left colectomy, or mobilization along the white line of Toldt.
