Description
Beginning in the cervical region, the esophagus descends posterior to the trachea, passes through the esophageal hiatus of the diaphragm, and continues into the stomach in the left upper quadrant before the animation tracks distally through the pylorus into the duodenum. Anterior and superior to the stomach, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant, with the gallbladder tucked on its inferior visceral surface, while the pancreas lies retroperitoneal and transverse, its head nested in the C loop of the duodenum and its tail approaching the splenic hilum. Coils of jejunum and ileum fill the central abdomen, framed peripherally by the large intestine, with the cecum and appendix in the right lower quadrant and the sigmoid colon curving into the rectum within the female pelvis.
