Beginning with the liver in anatomical position beneath the right hemidiaphragm, the animation orients the right and left lobes and then tracks along the superior (diaphragmatic) surface toward the inferior (visceral) surface. Rotation brings the falciform ligament into view as it separates the lobes on the anterior aspect, continuing inferiorly toward the round ligament (ligamentum teres hepatis) within the free edge as it approaches the fissure on the visceral surface. The sequence then isolates the quadrate lobe anteroinferiorly and the caudate lobe posterosuperiorly, clarifying their relationship to the porta hepatis, the inferior vena cava groove, and adjacent stomach and lesser omentum. Orientation like this matters when you are interpreting cross-sectional imaging or planning operative exposure, because lobar anatomy on the visceral surface does not map cleanly onto Couinaud segments or vascular territories. The caudate lobe’s proximity to the inferior vena cava and the fissure for the ligamentum venosum becomes a surgical consideration during hepatectomy and transplant mobilization.
