Description

Centered within the male thorax, the right and left lungs sit lateral to the mediastinum, their apices projecting superiorly above the first ribs and their bases resting on the diaphragm. The animation tracks airflow from the trachea into the carina, then along the right and left main bronchi as they branch into lobar and segmental bronchi, finally resolving into bronchioles and alveolar sacs at the periphery. Lobation is clear, with the right lung divided into superior, middle, and inferior lobes by horizontal and oblique fissures, while the left lung shows superior and inferior lobes separated by an oblique fissure and accommodating the cardiac impression medially.
