Description
Radiographic sequences center on the adult male gallbladder (vesica biliaris), outlined against the right upper quadrant beneath the inferior surface of the liver. Contrast opacification tracks from the right and left hepatic ducts into the common hepatic duct, then through the cystic duct into the gallbladder neck, body, and fundus, before returning to the common bile duct as the biliary tree clears. As the animation advances frame to frame, the organ’s smooth external contour and uniform radiographic density remain stable while the ductal network fills and washes out in an orderly proximal to distal pattern. Normal appearance matters because small deviations are what prompt intervention. A distended gallbladder with delayed emptying or a nonvisualized lumen during a functional study raises suspicion for cystic duct obstruction from cholelithiasis, and an irregular wall contour can steer the differential toward acute cholecystitis or chronic inflammatory change. Motion is the point here: seeing contrast traverse the cystic duct and then drain toward the common bile duct makes it easier to localize an obstruction than a single static radiograph, and it reinforces how partial filling defects can be missed when you do not follow the full wash-in and wash-out.
