From that junction, paired transverse sinuses sweep laterally within the tentorial attachment before curving inferiorly as the sigmoid sinuses toward the jugular foramina and internal jugular veins. Flow direction becomes obvious. Clinical anatomy hinges on these relationships because the sinuses sit fixed to dural reflections while the cerebral hemispheres move, so bridging veins entering the superior sagittal sinus are exposed to shear in acceleration injury and can tear to produce a subdural hematoma.
