Description
Beginning with a radiographic, X-ray styled cranial view, the animation isolates the ventricular system within the male brain and tracks its continuous cavity from rostral to caudal. The paired lateral ventricles are shown deep to the cerebral hemispheres, separated by the septum pellucidum and curving anteriorly into frontal horns, posteriorly into occipital horns, and inferiorly into temporal horns. Flow then follows through the interventricular foramina (of Monro) into the midline third ventricle, down the narrow cerebral aqueduct in the dorsal midbrain, and into the fourth ventricle between the pons, medulla, and cerebellum. Choroid plexus is highlighted along the ventricular roofs. Clear boundaries matter. Ventricular anatomy is where radiology meets neurosurgical decision-making, because small changes in caliber at the aqueduct, the foramina of Monro, or the outlets of the fourth ventricle (median aperture of Magendie and lateral apertures of Luschka) can shift CSF dynamics and drive obstructive hydrocephalus. By animating the sequential continuity of the chambers rather than freezing them in a single slice, the piece makes it easier to explain why aqueductal stenosis enlarges the lateral and third ventricles while sparing the fourth, and how intraventricular hemorrhage or a colloid cyst at the foramen of Monro can create asymmetric ventriculomegaly.
