Presented from an anterior perspective, the adult female skull is oriented in anatomical position so the frontal bone and supraorbital margins sit superior to the paired orbits, while the nasal bones and piriform aperture lie on the midline inferiorly. Medial orbital walls are formed by the ethmoid and lacrimal bones, with the zygomatic bones defining the lateral orbital rims and the maxilla supporting the infraorbital margins and anterior hard palate region. Inferiorly, the mandible frames the lower face, its body and mental protuberance centered, with the rami ascending posterolaterally toward the temporomandibular joints just beyond the anterior field. Anterior craniofacial orientation is the day-to-day map for trauma grading and operative planning, and this view makes the vertical buttresses of the midface easy to teach: nasomaxillary, zygomaticomaxillary, and pterygomaxillary lines of force that determine displacement patterns in Le Fort fractures. Subtle sex-associated morphology can also be discussed without drifting into stereotype, for example a smoother supraorbital region and a less prominent glabellar projection relative to many male crania, features relevant to forensic anthropology and craniofacial reconstruction. Clear landmarks matter. The infraorbital foramen region, nasal aperture, and mandibular symphysis guide local anesthesia approaches and incision placement in maxillofacial and ENT procedures.
