Medially it approaches the region of the medial canthus near the lacrimal sac area, then tracks laterally toward the lateral canthus as it arcs across the lid cheek junction. Superficial skin topography is the focus, but the contour reflects underlying relationships between the orbicularis oculi, the orbital septum and malar fat compartments that sit inferior and lateral to the orbital rim.
