Description
Posterior anatomy of the adult female muscular system is rendered with the skin reflected to expose the superficial and select deeper back muscles from the occipital region to the calves. Superiorly, the trapezius spans from the nuchal region toward the spine of the scapula, with the rhomboid minor and major positioned deep and medial to it, drawing the scapulae toward the vertebral column. Laterally, the deltoid caps the shoulder while the triceps brachii forms the posterior arm, and inferior to the scapula the latissimus dorsi sweeps inferolaterally toward its humeral insertion; the gluteus maximus dominates the posterior hip, with the hamstring group extending distally along the posterior thigh. Clear left-right symmetry anchors orientation. A posterior view matters when you need to teach how scapulothoracic motion and lumbar-pelvic stability are built from muscle lines of pull rather than from anterior “mirror” anatomy. Weakness or denervation of trapezius (spinal accessory nerve) produces shoulder droop and lateral scapular winging, while long thoracic nerve injury affects serratus anterior and creates a different winging pattern that is easier to explain when the posterior scapular borders and adjacent muscles are in frame. The gluteal region also provides a practical landmarking context for intramuscular injection (upper outer quadrant) to avoid the sciatic nerve, a common point of confusion when only bones are shown. Use this plate in gross anatomy and myology teaching, physical therapy and sports medicine lectures on posterior chain mechanics, and publisher layouts that need a single reference for back, shoulder, hip, and thigh muscle geography in an adult woman. It also fits patient-facing education on rotator cuff rehabilitation, scapular dyskinesis, and common injection safety diagrams. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
