Description
Posterior surface anatomy of the female gluteal region is rendered with emphasis on bilateral symmetry, the intergluteal cleft overlying the sacrum and coccyx, and the rounded contours produced primarily by gluteus maximus. Superiorly, the soft-tissue slope relates to the posterior iliac crests and posterior superior iliac spines, while laterally the fullness approaches the level of the greater trochanter. Inferiorly, the gluteal fold (infragluteal sulcus) marks the transition toward the posterior thigh, with the ischial tuberosities lying deep to the inferomedial buttock near the sitting surface.
