Description
Anterior frontal anatomy of a female child is rendered with the thoracic viscera and proximal upper abdominal organs visible beneath partially transparent skin and clothing. Superiorly, the cervical trachea descends in the midline toward the carina, with the esophagus positioned posterior to it, while the paired lungs occupy the right and left pleural cavities lateral to the mediastinum. Centrally, the heart sits slightly left of midline, inferior to the great vessels at the root of the neck, and superior to the diaphragm, with the liver and stomach suggested inferiorly where the upper abdomen begins. Color-coded overlays trace major arteries and veins, and segmental peripheral nerves course from the neck and axilla toward the upper limb. Clear orientation. Pediatric proportions change the relationships you rely on in adults: the thymus commonly occupies the anterior superior mediastinum, the heart sits relatively higher, and the great vessels take a shorter, more vertical course before dividing in the neck and toward the upper extremity. That makes this anterior view useful when teaching vascular access and airway management, because the internal jugular vein and common carotid artery lie in close apposition within the carotid sheath, while the subclavian vessels pass inferior to the clavicle toward the axilla near the brachial plexus. Congenital cardiac lesions, mediastinal masses, and catheter malposition are all interpreted against these landmarks.
