Description
Parotid, submandibular, and sublingual salivary glands occupy the lateral face and floor of mouth in a single oral-region field. The parotid gland sits anteroinferior to the external acoustic meatus, draping over the masseter and approaching the mandibular ramus, while the submandibular gland lies inferior and medial to the mandibular body within the submandibular triangle. Along the anterior floor of the mouth, the sublingual glands form elongated lobulated pads superior to the mylohyoid and lateral to the genioglossus, positioned adjacent to the lingual surface of the mandible. Major excretory pathways are typically readable by their anatomic course, with the parotid (Stensen) duct crossing the masseter and turning medially toward the buccal vestibule, and the submandibular (Wharton) duct tracking forward toward the sublingual caruncle.
