Description
A 3D model of an aortic aneurysm showing the pathological dilation of the aortic wall beyond 1.5 times the normal diameter. The model presents the aneurysm within the context of the complete aortic anatomy from the aortic root through the iliac bifurcation. Aortic aneurysms result from degradation of the structural proteins elastin and collagen in the media and adventitia. The weakened wall dilates under arterial pressure, and the progressive expansion follows Laplace's law — wall tension increases with diameter, accelerating further growth. Mural thrombus accumulates within the sac but does not protect against rupture. Risk factors include smoking, hypertension, male sex, and family history. Aortic aneurysm is a foundational topic in vascular surgery and cardiology education. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time engines, and 3D printing.
