What’s the difference between your Standard and Extended licenses for illustrations?

Our Standard license covers the vast majority of commercial use cases: web, print (up to 500K copies per file), editorial, presentations, paid ads, and video. It’s the right choice for agencies producing campaign materials, publishers building textbooks, or companies creating internal training content.
The Extended license adds unlimited print runs, broadcast/theatrical/OTT/OOH rights, physical product manufacturing (merchandise, packaging, 3D-printed models for sale), and app/software embedding. If your illustration ends up on a product that gets sold, on a TV screen, or compiled into an app binary, you need Extended.
Neither license requires attribution. Both are perpetual, royalty-free, and worldwide.

Question 2

Can a freelance medical illustrator use content across multiple client projects?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with an important distinction. If you’re purchasing for your own portfolio or general business use (no specific client yet), license it to yourself. You can then use the content in Derivative Works for multiple clients — the client receives your finished deliverable, not a license to our underlying content.
If you’re purchasing specifically for a known client project, name the client as the Licensee at checkout. This ensures the license is properly assigned.
Exception for 3D Realtime/Multi-Purpose licenses: if you’re embedding our 3D models into interactive applications for clients, each client app requires its own license. This doesn’t apply to rendered output (images, animations, video) — those can be delivered to unlimited clients under the Rendering license.

Which license does an ad agency need for a pharma campaign?

Accepted Answer

For a typical pharma campaign (web banners, social media, print ads, conference materials), our Standard license covers everything. For broadcast TV or OTT campaigns, you’ll need Extended.
Yes, you can deliver the finished campaign deliverables to your client. Our EULA explicitly confirms that agencies and service providers may deliver Derivative Works to clients. Your client receives the finished creative, not a license to the underlying SciePro content. This is spelled out in Sections 5.3(f), 5.4(e), 3.2(a), and 7.4 of our EULA.

What are the four 3D model license types and when do I need each one?

Accepted Answer

3D Print: Physical production — 3D printing, mold-making, CNC, casting. Unlimited units. Choose this if you’re manufacturing anatomical models, educational kits, or simulation hardware.
Rendering: Use our 3D models to render 2D illustrations, animations, or video. Deliver rendered output to unlimited clients. Ideal for medical illustrators and animation studios who use 3D as part of their rendering pipeline.
Realtime: Embed the model in interactive apps — Unity, Unreal, WebGL, AR/VR. Unlimited apps that you own and publish; each third-party client app needs its own license.
Multi-Purpose: All three combined under one license. Same per-client-app rule applies for interactive applications.
Universal rules for all 3D licenses: no stock redistribution, no AI/ML training, and source files must never be exposed to end users.

Can we use SciePro content in a medical device UI undergoing FDA/CE review?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Our illustrations and 3D models are used in regulated medical products worldwide. With the right license level (typically Standard or Extended for illustrations, Realtime or Multi-Purpose for 3D), you have perpetual, worldwide rights that survive regulatory review cycles.
Important: our content is illustrative and informational only. We do not warrant medical accuracy for diagnostic or clinical decision-support purposes — you are responsible for regulatory compliance, labeling validation, and any claims made using our visuals. Our EULA includes a business continuity clause (Section 3.6), so your license survives even if SciePro is acquired or reorganized — critical for products with 10+ year lifecycles.

Question 6

What’s the difference between the Educator, Campus, and Institutional plans?

Accepted Answer

Educator (1 seat): Personal license for an individual professor or instructor. Credits-based, with pricing available on our pricing page. Content you download is yours perpetually, even after cancellation.
Campus (5 seats): Shared credit pool for a department or small team. Named users, with pricing available on our pricing page. Same perpetual rights on downloaded content.
Institutional (unlimited seats, unlimited access): Flat monthly or annual fee for your entire institution. This is a pure access license — fundamentally different from the other plans. You get unlimited access to all illustrations and animations while you subscribe, but rights do not survive cancellation. If you cancel, there’s a 60-day wind-down period, after which content must be removed. We offer a Transition License option to convert downloaded content to perpetual Educational rights for a one-time fee.
All education plans are restricted to non-commercial, accredited institutions. Marketing and admissions materials require a Standard or Extended license.

Question 7

What file formats do your 3D models ship in, and are they production-ready for Unity/Unreal?

Accepted Answer

Our 3D anatomy models are built on a proprietary anatomy system developed since 2014, with 3,600+ individually labeled and verified structures. For most models, we deliver in .max (3ds Max), .mb (Maya), .blend (Blender), .c4d (Cinema 4D), .fbx, .glb, and .usd, with Unity Packages available for select models. Specific format availability is listed on each product page.
For Unity and Unreal workflows, our models are optimized for real-time rendering with clean topology, proper UV mapping, and production-grade textures. Each model page lists polygon counts, texture resolutions, and supported engine versions so you can evaluate pipeline compatibility before purchasing.
Under our Realtime license, you must embed models in Compiled Form — meaning encrypted asset bundles, custom binary formats, or obfuscated packages. Standard interchange files (.glb, .fbx, .obj) served via public URLs do not meet our anti-extraction requirements, even in WebGL applications.

Question 8

Can I modify the mesh topology, re-rig, or retexture your 3D models?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All paid 3D licenses (Print, Rendering, Realtime, Multi-Purpose) permit full modification: re-topology, re-rigging, retexturing, geometry edits, material changes, and re-lighting. You own the Derivative Work you create.
One critical rule: regardless of how extensively you modify a model, it remains a Derivative Work under our Agreement and is subject to all restrictions (no redistribution, no AI training, no stock resale). Even if your modifications are so substantial that the result might qualify as an independent work under copyright law, the contractual restrictions still apply. This protects the integrity of our library and ensures modified versions don’t end up competing with the originals.

Question 9

We’re building a WebGL anatomy viewer. How do we satisfy the anti-extraction requirements?

Accepted Answer

WebGL is a common deployment target for our Realtime licensees, but it requires extra care because browsers give users access to network traffic and DevTools. Simply loading a .glb or .gltf from a public URL is not sufficient — anyone can intercept that request and download your model.
We require reasonable obfuscation. Practical approaches our customers use include: custom binary formats that require application-specific decoders, encrypted asset bundles decrypted at runtime with a session key, server-side rendering where the model never leaves your backend, or progressive mesh streaming where no single request delivers the complete model.
You don’t need military-grade encryption — “reasonable” means a technically competent user can’t extract a usable model file with standard browser tools.

Do your animations come with editable project files, or are they pre-rendered?

Our animation library contains 2,000+ pre-rendered medical animations delivered as video files. These are ready for integration into presentations, websites, e-learning modules, and broadcast productions.
The same license tiers apply as for illustrations: Educational for academic use, Standard for commercial campaigns and publications, Extended for broadcast, apps, and merchandise. Credit costs for animations are higher than for illustrations, reflecting the production value. Current credit costs per license level are listed on our pricing page.

Question 11

Can I use your 3D model to render a library of images and sell them?

Accepted Answer

No. Our Rendering license permits project-specific renders and client deliverables, but explicitly prohibits systematic or bulk rendering for the purpose of creating an image library, catalogue, or stock collection for sale or distribution. This applies whether you’re selling through your own platform or a third-party stock agency.
Isolated client deliverables, marketing renders, and academic publication figures are all fine. The restriction targets industrial-scale rendering designed to replicate or compete with our content library.

Question 12

How do credits work, and what happens to unused credits if I cancel?

Accepted Answer

Each subscription plan gives you a monthly or annual credit allocation. Downloads deduct credits based on asset type and license level — animations cost more credits than illustrations, and higher license tiers cost more credits than lower ones. Current credit costs are listed on our pricing page.
Rollover: unused credits roll over and remain valid for six months from the date they were issued. After six months, unspent credits expire automatically.
Cancellation: when you cancel, your unused credits are frozen but don’t vanish immediately. They expire six months after their original issue date. You won’t receive new credits after cancellation, but you retain access to the platform until the end of your current paid term.
Perpetual rights: everything you downloaded during your active subscription remains licensed to you forever, even after cancellation. The license is perpetual.

Question 13

We have a team of 12 people. Which plan should we choose?

Accepted Answer

Our Business plan (5 named seats) is our most popular commercial option, with 5 named seats and a shared credit pool. Each seat must be assigned to a named individual — credential sharing between team members is not permitted.
For a team of 12, you have two options: (a) purchase two Business plans, giving you 10 named seats with separate credit pools, or (b) contact us about an Enterprise plan with unlimited seats, custom credit volumes, and a shared pool between team members. Enterprise plans also include a dedicated account manager and invoice billing.
Seats can be reassigned once per quarter (or immediately if someone leaves the team).

Question 14

Can I get a refund if the content doesn’t work for my project?

Accepted Answer

Illustrations and animations: if you haven’t downloaded the file yet, you can request a full refund within 14 days. Once the download starts, the sale is final — this is standard for digital content under EU law.
3D models: you get a five-business-day inspection window after download. If the model doesn’t match its description (wrong topology, missing textures, wrong format, substantially different geometry), contact support@sciepro.com with details. We’ll assess it in good faith against the published product page.
Not covered: dissatisfaction with creative style, artistic choices, or general suitability. The inspection window is for material discrepancies between what we advertised and what we delivered.
Subscriptions: cancel anytime, but no prorated refunds for partially used billing periods. You keep access until the term ends.

Question 15

Do you offer volume discounts or custom Enterprise pricing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our published plans offer significant savings on annual billing compared to monthly pricing. Beyond that, our Enterprise tier offers custom credit volumes, unlimited seats, dedicated account management, priority support, invoice billing, and bespoke licensing terms.
For 3D models, which are sold individually outside the credit system, we offer volume pricing for multi-model purchases. Contact our sales team for a custom quote.

Question 16

What happens to our license if SciePro is acquired or goes out of business?

Accepted Answer

We’ve addressed this directly in our EULA (Section 3.6). All perpetual licenses validly granted under our Agreement survive any change of control, reorganization, merger, acquisition, or dissolution of SciePro. If we’re acquired, your license stays intact. If we’re liquidated, your perpetual license remains in full force.
This is particularly important for customers in regulated industries (medical devices, pharma) where product lifecycles extend well beyond any single vendor relationship. Your investment in our content is protected.

Question 17

Can I use your content to train an AI model or include it in a training dataset?

Accepted Answer

No, under any license level. Our AI/ML prohibition is absolute and applies to all content types (illustrations, animations, 3D models) and all license tiers, including Multi-Purpose. You may not use our content to train, fine-tune, validate, or evaluate AI/ML systems; create or contribute to datasets for such purposes; or prompt or seed generative models in a way that allows reconstruction of our content.
We’ve built this library over 20 years with rigorous medical verification. Protecting it from unauthorized AI reproduction is central to our business and to the quality guarantee our customers rely on.

Question 18

Can I use AI-generated content alongside your 3D models in my application?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our restriction is specifically about using our content as input to AI systems. You’re free to combine our 3D models or illustrations with AI-generated text, AI-generated UI elements, or other AI-produced content in your application — as long as our Licensed Content itself is not used to train, fine-tune, or seed the AI.
For example, a medical education app that uses our 3D anatomy model alongside AI-generated quiz questions is perfectly fine. An app that feeds our model into a neural network to generate synthetic anatomy is not.

Question 19

Who owns the copyright to content I download? Can someone else license the same image?

Accepted Answer

We retain copyright. Your license is non-exclusive, meaning we can (and do) license the same content to other customers. This is standard for stock content and is what makes the pricing sustainable.
You own the Derivative Works you create — your composites, your edited versions, your rendered output, your final campaign materials. But the underlying Licensed Content remains our intellectual property. You can’t claim trademark rights over it or redistribute it as a standalone file.

Question 20

What’s the difference between your Free license and the paid licenses? Can I use Free content commercially?

Accepted Answer

Our Free illustrations can be used commercially in limited ways (websites, social media posts) but require attribution (“© SciePro Distribution GmbH — sciepro.com”) and cannot be modified. They’re a great way to evaluate our quality before committing to a subscription.
Free content cannot be used for: paid advertising, product packaging, broadcast, apps, physical products, templates, or AI/ML training. For any of these use cases, you’ll need a Standard or Extended license.
Paid licenses remove the attribution requirement (for Standard and Extended), allow full modifications, and unlock commercial use cases across the full spectrum from web to broadcast to physical products.
