Description
A 3D model of an artery showing the three-layered wall structure. The tunica intima lines the lumen with endothelium, the tunica media contains smooth muscle and elastic fibers, and the tunica adventitia forms the outer connective tissue layer. The elastic laminae between layers are visible. Arteries carry blood away from the heart under high pressure. Their thick muscular and elastic walls withstand the pulsatile pressure and regulate blood flow through vasoconstriction and vasodilation. Larger arteries have more elastic tissue, while smaller arteries have more muscle. Arterial anatomy is studied in cardiovascular physiology, histology, and vascular surgery. Medical advisory board reviewed. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
