Description
A 3D model of an artery affected by atherosclerosis, showing plaque buildup within the arterial wall. The plaque contains a lipid core covered by a fibrous cap, narrowing the arterial lumen. The intima is thickened by the accumulated material, while the media and adventitia remain relatively intact. Atherosclerosis develops over decades as cholesterol, inflammatory cells, and fibrous tissue accumulate in the arterial wall. The plaque progressively narrows the lumen, reducing blood flow. Plaque rupture can trigger thrombosis, causing heart attack or stroke. Atherosclerotic artery models are used in cardiovascular education, patient counseling about heart disease, and public health materials. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
