Description
A 3D model showing the layered structure of the retina. From outer to inner: the retinal pigment epithelium, photoreceptor layer (rods and cones), outer nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer, inner plexiform layer, ganglion cell layer, and nerve fiber layer. Light passes through the transparent inner layers to reach the photoreceptors. The signal then flows backward through bipolar cells to ganglion cells, whose axons form the optic nerve. The complex retinal circuitry begins processing visual information before it reaches the brain. Retinal anatomy is studied in ophthalmology and neuroscience courses. Medical advisory board reviewed. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
