Description
A 3D model of the female urinary bladder with a diverticulum, showing a sac-like outpouching of the mucosal lining through a defect in the muscular wall. The diverticulum herniates through the detrusor where the muscle is weakened, creating a pocket that retains urine after voiding. Bladder diverticula can be congenital or acquired. Acquired forms typically result from chronic bladder outlet obstruction or detrusor dysfunction. The retained urine within the diverticulum promotes stone formation and recurrent infection. The model supports urology education, patient counseling, and surgical planning for diverticulectomy. The relationship between the diverticulum and the normal bladder wall is clearly visible.
