Description
A cross section of the female breast showing an abscess within the glandular tissue. The walled-off collection of purulent material displaces surrounding breast parenchyma and ducts, creating a visible cavity within the breast tissue. The surrounding tissue shows inflammatory changes. Breast abscesses most commonly develop during lactation when blocked ducts allow bacterial colonization, but they can also occur in non-lactating women, often in the periareolar region. The abscess wall forms as the body attempts to contain the infection. The model supports patient education about breast abscess management, surgical teaching for incision and drainage, and clinical training where recognizing the difference between abscess and other breast masses matters. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
