Description

A cross section of the female breast containing cysts within the glandular parenchyma. The cysts appear as fluid-filled sacs of varying sizes, displacing the surrounding ductal and glandular tissue. The cyst walls are smooth and well-defined, distinguishing them from solid masses. Breast cysts are a common component of fibrocystic breast changes, which affect a significant proportion of women. They develop when lobular acini dilate and fill with fluid. Most are simple cysts that require no treatment, but complex cysts with internal echoes on ultrasound may warrant aspiration or biopsy. The model supports patient education for women presenting with palpable breast lumps, radiology teaching for ultrasound interpretation, and clinical training on distinguishing cystic from solid lesions.
