Description
A cross section of the female breast affected by mastitis, showing inflammatory changes within the glandular tissue and ducts. The affected area shows tissue edema, dilated ducts, and surrounding erythema in the parenchyma. The inflammation may involve one segment or spread more broadly through the breast. Mastitis most commonly occurs during breastfeeding when milk stasis allows bacterial invasion, typically Staphylococcus aureus. The inflamed segment becomes painful, swollen, and warm. If untreated, mastitis can progress to abscess formation. The model supports patient education for breastfeeding women, obstetric and midwifery training, and clinical teaching about recognizing and managing breast infection. The visual comparison between inflamed and healthy tissue within the same section communicates the extent of involvement. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
