Description
An isolated 3D model of the female thymus, showing the bilobed organ as it sits in the anterior mediastinum behind the sternum and in front of the great vessels. Each lobe is divided into lobules, and the overall shape reflects the gland's size in an adult, where it has begun involuting and replacing with adipose tissue. The thymus is where T lymphocytes mature and undergo selection, making it a cornerstone of the adaptive immune system. It is largest in childhood and progressively atrophies after puberty, but its early function establishes the T cell repertoire for life. Thymic anatomy appears in immunology, thoracic surgery (particularly for thymectomy in myasthenia gravis), and developmental anatomy courses. The isolated model shows the gland's position and lobar structure. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
