Description
A 3D model of gastric glands from the body of the stomach. The tubular glands extend from the gastric pits downward into the lamina propria. Parietal cells (producing hydrochloric acid) are concentrated in the upper and middle portions. Chief cells (producing pepsinogen) predominate at the base. Mucous neck cells are at the gland neck. Gastric glands secrete the components of gastric juice. Acid activates pepsinogen to pepsin and creates the low pH needed for protein digestion. Mucus protects the gastric lining from self-digestion. Gastric gland anatomy is studied in histology and gastroenterology. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
