Description
A 3D model of a total hip replacement showing the acetabular cup seated in the reamed acetabulum, the polyethylene or ceramic liner, the femoral head, and the femoral stem inserted into the medullary canal. The prosthetic components articulate to restore the hip joint. Total hip arthroplasty replaces the arthritic or fractured hip joint with prosthetic components. The acetabular component is press-fit or cemented into the pelvis, and the femoral stem is inserted into the proximal femur.
