Description

A 3D model of an insulin pump showing the external pump unit connected to a subcutaneous infusion set. The cannula is inserted into the abdominal subcutaneous tissue, and the tubing connects to the insulin reservoir in the pump device. Insulin pumps deliver continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), mimicking physiological insulin secretion more closely than multiple daily injections. The pump delivers a programmable basal rate and patient-activated bolus doses for meals. Modern systems integrate with continuous glucose monitors to form sensor-augmented pumps, and closed-loop (artificial pancreas) systems automate insulin delivery based on real-time glucose readings. Insulin pump therapy and device anatomy are essential teaching topics in endocrinology and diabetes management. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time engines, and 3D printing.
