Description
A 3D model of a total knee replacement showing the femoral component resurfacing the distal femur, the tibial baseplate with polyethylene insert on the proximal tibia, and the optional patellar button. The prosthetic surfaces recreate the condylar articulation. Total knee arthroplasty replaces the worn articular surfaces of the knee joint. The femoral component covers the condylar surfaces, and the tibial component provides a flat or dished platform with a polyethylene bearing surface. Ligament balance, component alignment, and gap symmetry in flexion and extension determine the functional outcome. Cruciate-retaining and posterior-stabilized designs differ in their management of the posterior cruciate ligament. Total knee replacement anatomy is essential teaching material in orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time engines, and 3D printing.
