Description

A 3D model of loose (areolar) connective tissue showing its extracellular matrix components. Collagen fibers provide tensile strength, elastic fibers allow stretch and recoil, and reticular fibers form a supporting meshwork. Scattered cells include fibroblasts, macrophages, mast cells, and adipocytes. Loose connective tissue fills spaces between organs, surrounds blood vessels and nerves, and underlies epithelia throughout the body. Its loose organization allows flexibility and provides a pathway for immune cells to move through tissues during inflammation. Connective tissue anatomy is taught in histology and pathology courses. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
