Description

An anterior cross section of the male bladder and prostate showing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The transition zone of the prostate is enlarged, compressing the prostatic urethra into a narrowed slit. The bladder wall shows trabeculation from chronic outlet obstruction, where the detrusor muscle has hypertrophied against the increased resistance. BPH affects the majority of men over 60. The enlarged prostate squeezes the urethra, causing hesitancy, weak stream, frequency, nocturia, and incomplete emptying. Over time, the bladder wall thickens and may develop diverticula from sustained pressure. The model supports patient education before medication or surgical treatment, urology training, and clinical teaching about lower urinary tract symptoms. The visual comparison between the compressed urethra and the normal caliber is immediate. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
