Description

A cross section of the male gallbladder containing gallstones (cholelithiasis) within the lumen. Stones of varying sizes sit against the mucosal surface. The gallbladder wall may show thickening from chronic inflammation, and a stone may be impacted in the cystic duct or gallbladder neck. Gallstones form when bile components crystallize, most commonly cholesterol stones in Western populations. They range from sand-like sludge to single large stones exceeding several centimeters. Stones can obstruct the cystic duct, causing biliary colic, or the common bile duct, causing jaundice and cholangitis. The model supports patient education before cholecystectomy, gastroenterology teaching, and surgical anatomy courses. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
