Description

A four-chamber cross section of the adult male heart, cut along the plane used in standard echocardiographic apical views. All four cardiac chambers are open and visible in a single view. Both atrioventricular valves, the mitral and tricuspid, span their respective orifices with chordae tendineae and papillary muscles intact. The interatrial septum separates the upper chambers, and the fossa ovalis marks the thinnest region where a patent foramen ovale may persist. Below, the interventricular septum divides the ventricles, and the differential wall thickness between left and right sides is immediately apparent. Few sectional views communicate cardiac anatomy as efficiently as the four-chamber cut. It is the standard illustration for explaining atrial and ventricular septal defects, comparative chamber size, and valve anatomy in a single frame. Medical educators, patient communication designers, and clinical presenters will find this view broadly applicable. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time engines, and 3D printing.
