Description

A lateral cross section of the adult male heart, cut along a sagittal plane to expose the right-side chambers and their internal structures. The section reveals the right atrium, right ventricle, and the tricuspid valve apparatus from a perspective that is difficult to appreciate in standard anterior views. The right atrial wall shows the pectinate muscles and the crista terminalis, while the right ventricle displays its moderator band, coarse trabeculations, and the infundibulum leading into the pulmonary trunk. The tricuspid valve leaflets and their chordae tendineae anchor to papillary muscles along the ventricular wall. Lateral heart sections offer a perspective used in echocardiography and cardiac surgery planning to assess structures that overlap in frontal views. The right-side focus makes this model suited for explaining conditions like tricuspid regurgitation, right ventricular outflow tract obstruction, and pulmonary stenosis.
