Description
A transverse cross section through the adult male heart, sliced horizontally to reveal the internal geometry of the ventricles at mid-chamber level. The cut exposes the circular profile of the left ventricle with its thick myocardial wall and the crescent-shaped right ventricular cavity wrapping around it. The interventricular septum divides the two chambers and demonstrates the difference in wall thickness between the high-pressure left side and the lower-pressure right side. Papillary muscles appear in cross section within both ventricles, and the endocardial lining is visible along the inner surfaces. Transverse cardiac sections are standard teaching tools for explaining concepts like ventricular remodeling, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and right ventricular dilation.
