Description

A 3D model of the male liver affected by cirrhosis. The liver surface has lost its smooth contour and shows the characteristic nodular pattern of regenerating hepatocyte nodules surrounded by fibrous septa. The overall volume may be reduced, and the liver edge appears irregular. Cirrhosis is the end stage of chronic liver injury from any cause, including alcohol, viral hepatitis, or metabolic disease. The normal hepatic architecture is replaced by fibrotic bands and regenerative nodules, disrupting blood flow through the liver and impairing its synthetic and metabolic functions. Portal hypertension develops as resistance to portal blood flow increases. The model supports hepatology education, patient communication about chronic liver disease, and pathology teaching.
