Description
A 3D model of the male small intestine showing a J-pouch (ileal pouch-anal anastomosis). The terminal ileum is folded back on itself in a J-shape and stapled to create a neorectum, which is then connected to the anal canal. The pouch serves as a reservoir after the colon and rectum have been removed. J-pouch construction is the standard restorative procedure after proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis or familial adenomatous polyposis. The pouch allows patients to maintain fecal continence without a permanent ileostomy. The J configuration provides adequate reservoir volume with a technically straightforward construction. The model supports colorectal surgery education and patient counseling before pouch surgery. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
