Description

An anterior cross section of the male stomach and distal esophagus showing an esophageal ulcer. The ulcer erodes the mucosal lining of the lower esophagus, creating a crater-like defect in the squamous epithelium. Surrounding tissue shows inflammatory changes. Esophageal ulcers result from prolonged acid exposure in reflux disease, medication injury (particularly NSAIDs and bisphosphonates), or infectious causes in immunocompromised patients. They cause pain on swallowing, chest pain, and can bleed or, rarely, perforate. The model supports gastroenterology patient education and clinical teaching. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
