Description
A 3D model of a mast cell, a tissue-resident immune cell filled with granules containing histamine, heparin, and other inflammatory mediators. The cell has a round nucleus and cytoplasm packed with metachromatic granules. IgE antibodies are bound to high-affinity receptors on the cell surface. Mast cells are sentinels positioned at interfaces with the external environment: skin, airways, and gut. Cross-linking of surface IgE by multivalent antigens triggers degranulation, releasing histamine and other mediators that cause immediate hypersensitivity reactions (allergies, anaphylaxis). Mast cell anatomy is taught in immunology and allergy education. Medical advisory board reviewed. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
