Description
A 3D model of a monocyte, a circulating precursor to macrophages and dendritic cells. The cell has a characteristic kidney-shaped (reniform) or horseshoe-shaped nucleus and abundant cytoplasm. Monocytes are the largest cells in normal peripheral blood. Monocytes circulate in the blood for 1-3 days before migrating into tissues and differentiating into macrophages or dendritic cells. They are part of the mononuclear phagocyte system and respond to inflammatory signals by leaving the bloodstream and entering infected or damaged tissues. Monocyte anatomy is taught in immunology and hematology courses. Medical advisory board reviewed. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
