Description
A 3D model of a muscle spindle, a sensory receptor that detects muscle stretch. The spindle contains intrafusal muscle fibers (nuclear bag and nuclear chain fibers) wrapped by sensory nerve endings. The capsule encloses the spindle, and gamma motor neurons innervate the intrafusal fibers to adjust sensitivity. Muscle spindles provide proprioceptive feedback about muscle length and the rate of length change. This information is essential for motor control, posture, and the stretch reflex. Gamma motor neurons allow the brain to tune spindle sensitivity during movement. Muscle spindle anatomy is taught in neurophysiology and physical therapy courses. Medical advisory board reviewed. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
