Penis Sagittal Section

Description

A sagittal section through the penis, cut along the midline to reveal the paired corpora cavernosa dorsally and the single corpus spongiosum surrounding the urethra ventrally. The section traces from the penile root (crura and bulb) through the shaft to the glans penis. The corpora cavernosa are the erectile bodies that fill with blood during erection, expanding within their tough tunica albuginea. The corpus spongiosum remains softer during erection to keep the urethra patent. The glans is an expansion of the spongiosum at the distal tip.
