Description
A cross section of the rectum showing an intersphincteric abscess, a collection of pus between the internal and external anal sphincters. The abscess sits within the intersphincteric plane, which is the most common location for anorectal abscesses since the anal glands that become infected originate in this space. Intersphincteric abscesses account for roughly 45 percent of anorectal abscesses. They present with perianal pain that worsens with sitting and defecation. Drainage requires incision through the internal sphincter into the anal canal. The model supports colorectal surgery education and anatomy teaching. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
