Description
A cross section of the rectum showing an ischiorectal (ischioanal) abscess, a purulent collection in the fat-filled ischiorectal fossa lateral to the anal canal. The abscess occupies the space between the external sphincter and the lateral pelvic wall. Ischiorectal abscesses can grow large before causing symptoms because the ischiorectal fossa is a spacious compartment. They may extend across the midline behind the anal canal (horseshoe abscess) through the deep postanal space. External drainage through the perianal skin is the standard treatment. The model supports colorectal surgery education and clinical anatomy teaching. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
