Description
A cross section of the rectum showing a submucous abscess, a purulent collection within the submucosal layer of the rectal wall. The abscess bulges into the rectal lumen beneath an intact mucosal surface. The submucous location is less common than other anorectal abscess types. Submucous abscesses can be difficult to diagnose because they may not be palpable externally. They present with rectal pain and a sense of fullness. Drainage is performed internally through the rectal mucosa. The model supports colorectal surgery education and clinical teaching. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
