Description
A cross section of the rectum showing a supralevator abscess, a purulent collection above the levator ani muscle in the pelvic cavity. The abscess occupies the space between the rectum and the pelvic sidewall, above the pelvic floor musculature. Supralevator abscesses are the deepest and least common type of anorectal abscess. They may result from upward extension of an intersphincteric or ischiorectal abscess, or from pelvic pathology like appendicitis or diverticulitis. Drainage approach depends on the origin: transrectal for intersphincteric sources, through the ischiorectal fossa for ischiorectal sources. The model supports surgical education and pelvic anatomy teaching. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Ready for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
