Description

A cross section of the rectum and anal canal showing an anal fissure, a linear tear in the anoderm below the dentate line. The fissure extends through the mucosa and into the internal sphincter, which goes into spasm in response to the injury, reducing blood flow and impairing healing. Anal fissures are the most common cause of severe anal pain during defecation. The posterior midline is the most frequent location, where blood supply to the anoderm is poorest. Acute fissures may heal with conservative treatment, but chronic fissures develop fibrotic edges and a sentinel pile. The model supports patient education, colorectal surgery teaching, and primary care training. Reviewed by a medical advisory board. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
