Saccular abdominal aortic aneurysm

Description

A 3D model of a saccular abdominal aortic aneurysm, showing the asymmetric, outpouching dilation arising from one side of the aortic wall. The neck of the saccular aneurysm connects to the main aortic lumen, while the opposite wall remains at normal caliber. Saccular aneurysms involve only a portion of the aortic circumference, producing an eccentric bulge. They are less common than fusiform aneurysms but carry a higher rupture risk per diameter because of the asymmetric wall stress distribution. Saccular morphology may suggest a mycotic (infected) aneurysm or penetrating aortic ulcer as the underlying etiology, both of which alter management.
