Description
A 3D model of a coronary stent deployed within a coronary artery, showing the metallic mesh scaffold expanded against the vessel wall to maintain luminal patency. The stent holds open a previously stenotic segment of the artery. Coronary stents are deployed during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to treat atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. Drug-eluting stents (DES) are coated with antiproliferative agents that inhibit neointimal hyperplasia, reducing restenosis rates compared to bare-metal stents. The stent is delivered on a balloon catheter, positioned across the lesion under fluoroscopic guidance, and expanded by balloon inflation. Dual antiplatelet therapy is required to prevent stent thrombosis. Coronary stent anatomy and deployment is a core teaching topic in interventional cardiology. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time engines, and 3D printing.
