Description
A 3D model showing the histological organization of the thymus. The lobules have a dark outer cortex densely packed with immature T cells and a lighter medulla with fewer cells and Hassall's corpuscles. Epithelial reticular cells form the framework and provide signals for T cell development. The thymus is where T lymphocytes mature and undergo selection. Positive selection in the cortex ensures T cells can recognize self-MHC. Negative selection in the medulla eliminates strongly self-reactive cells. Hassall's corpuscles are whorled epithelial structures unique to the medulla. Thymus histology is taught in immunology and pathology courses. Medical advisory board reviewed. Clean geometry for rendering, real-time, and 3D printing.
