Description
Rotating through a male thorax, the animation tracks the esophagus from the inferior pharynx, posterior to the trachea and left atrium, to its diaphragmatic hiatus and gastroesophageal junction. A malignant mass is visualized along the esophageal wall, narrowing the lumen and creating an irregular, asymmetric contour that becomes more conspicuous as the viewpoint aligns with a plain radiographic projection. The lesion sits in the expected distal third distribution for adenocarcinoma associated with Barrett’s esophagus, just superior to the stomach and anterior to the vertebral column. Lumen caliber changes over time. Clinically, this is the radiographic problem behind progressive dysphagia and weight loss, where an intraluminal narrowing on X-ray (often best appreciated during contrast esophagography) can suggest an annular, shouldered stricture rather than a smooth benign peptic stenosis.
