Seen in left-facing lateral profile, the highlighted crus (leg region between knee and ankle) corresponds to the osseous column of the tibia positioned anteromedially and the fibula running posterolateral to it, separated along most of their length by the interosseous membrane. Along the posterior contour, the calf mass reflects the triceps surae (gastrocnemius and soleus) tapering inferiorly toward the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon, while the anterior border aligns with the tibial crest and the extensor compartment. Proximally, the fibular head sits just inferior and lateral to the knee joint line; distally, the lateral malleolus projects farther inferiorly than the medial malleolus, a reliable surface landmark in the ankle region.
